Moving RICS Magento Integration to Modern Retail

Question

I am currently using an integration between RICS Software and my Magento website using a competing product, and I have to say, I'm not happy with it at all.  The firm I'm using seems to have done just a couple of integrations, and it is just not working.  I sell shoes, so I have a lot of SKUs, and Magento is just not updating correctly, if at all.  I often run a sale in RICS, and their integration takes forever to update Magento.  Can you help me if I move this integration to Modern Retail?  Do I need to start all over again, or can I use the products that are already in Magento?  Does your integration scale?

Answer

I'm sorry you've had so many problems with your RICS/Magento integration; we'd love to help you!

RICS uses what's called a Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) to uniquely identify their products in their system.  Modern Retail uses this GUID in Magento to "connect" or "integrate" the products from RICS.  If your current integrator has populated this GUID in the SKU field for the Simple Products in Magento, you should be ok - we'll be able integrate the current products you have entered without needing to reenter them.  If you don't see this long number in the SKU field in Magento, it is probably more difficult.

There may be some work we need to do with your Configurable Products in Magento, which isn't a problem as long as the RICS GUID is populating the SKU field on the Simple Products.

Regarding your questions and concerns about the speed of the integration, I hate to say it, but we also failed miserably with the Magento integration when it was first developed.  Luckily, this was years ago, and the Magento integration cranks today! It is used by some of the biggest online retailers. You can read more about it here:

I think that's it.  Please let me know if you have any more questions about our RICS/Magento integration. Thank you.
