Allowing Backorder

Overview

For a variety of reasons, you may want to allow backorders for your online store. This allows customers to place orders for products you may not necessarily have inventory of. In this article, we'll talk about how to enable backorder in BigCommerce.

Enabling Backorder

To begin, you'll want to find the product you're allowing backorder for in BigCommerce. You can do this by logging into your BigCommerce store, and heading to Products>View (or Search if you'd rather search for the product you're looking for instead.)

From here, you'll want to select the product you're allowing backorder for. Click on the Product Name for the relevant product, and then scroll down until you find the Track Inventory option.

Uncheck the Track Inventory checkbox, so it is unchecked, like in the screenshot above. And that's it! BigCommerce will no longer track the inventory for that product, meaning it won't disallow the product when you run out of inventory.
