Overview
When our integration brings products over from Counterpoint to WooCommerce, we pick which fields in Counterpoint translate to which fields in WooCommerce. We refer to this process as "mapping", or "attribute mapping". In this article we'll talk about mapping description fields from Counterpoint to WooCommerce.
Description Fields
There are 6 fields in Counterpoint that are relevant to our conversation. These are as follows:
- Description
- Short Description
- Long Description
- Additional Description 1
- Additional Description 2
- Additional Description 3
On the flipside, there are 3 fields we care about in WooCommerce:
- Name
- Short Description
- Long Description
We typically match these up as follows (Counterpoint field first, then WooCommerce)
- Description is mapped to Name
- Long Description is mapped to Short Description
- Additional Description 1 & 2 are mapped to Long Description
Here's an example image indicating how we typically map these:
Altering Fields
We can change how things are mapped in a few different ways.
- We can map any of the 6 Counterpoint fields to the WooCommerce name field.
- We can map either the HTML Description or the Long Description from CounterPoint to the WooCommerce Short Description field.
Changing how the fields are mapped may result in needing to delete and re-add the affected products, or other inconveniences.
