In order for our integration to work with other pieces of software, like your POS system or your ecommerce platform, we need to set up API access. This article will discuss what this means, and why we do it.
API stands for "Application Programming Interface"; it's how different programs can interact with each other. We use this to move data between different places, like Runit and your ecommerce platform. Because API access is so essential, it is almost always secured with an API Key, which is sort of like an extra-strength password.
To this end, Modern Retail creates API keys to apply to your platforms, so they can access the Admin Panel. Depending on your ecommerce platform, we'll also get API access for that platform for the Admin Panel.
