Using Route Insurance

Overview

Route is a popular Shopify app used to offer shipping insurance & package tracking for orders. Route, however, does not natively function with Shopify integrations for certain POS systems. This article will discuss why that is, and what can be done about it.

Route Exceptions

Route works by adding an additional line item when an order is made, effectively adding "Route Shipping Insurance" as an extra product to the customer's order. For many POS systems, this "Route Shipping Insurance" needs to exist as a product in the POS system, or the POS system won't know what to do with orders coming from your website with "Route Shipping". This is most notably an issue with RICS, but it applies to other POS systems as well.

The solution to this is to have a "Route Shipping Insurance" product in your POS system, and to make sure that it correlates to how your Route Shipping app is configured. For RICS, this would mean making sure that the Route app populates the Route Shipping Insurance product line item with the GUID matching the Route Shipping Insurance product in RICS. We recommend contacting both Modern Retail & Route support to coordinate this.
