Overview
Some online stores may find it useful to allow customers to search or sort through products based on their attributes. This might mean letting your customers search through only red products, or only products that come in a certain size. This is doable, however long-time clients may run into some difficulties. This article will describe those difficulties, and what we can do to get around them.
What's the Problem?
If you wanted to let your customers sort through products by attributes like size, color, or brand, then that's totally possible! However, if your integration occurred before we switched to v2 of our integrator (so more than two years ago), then your products with size attributes don't just have one size attribute, they have all of them. Look at this example below:
So, for another example, a purple dress would have the purple attribute, the small attribute, the medium attribute, the large attribute, and the extra large attribute. This has no real effect on how your products work, however it is an obstacle in designing a search or sort feature.
What Can We Do?
Luckily, the solution is simple. Modern Retail has a script that will clear the irrelevant attributes from your products. Get in touch with us with a support request and we can run this script, quickly resolving the issue.
This should be a quick and easy process, however we recommend creating a database backup beforehand, just in case.
