Configuring eGift Cards in BigCommerce

Overview

eGift Cards need to be created and configured in a specific way in BigCommerce to make sure that the eGift Card is generated properly for your shoppers.  This help page will show you how to quickly and easily create eGift Cards for your customers in BigCommerce.

Configuring eGift Cards

eGift Cards should start as a product in BigCommerce, unless you're using the Epicor Eagle POS system, in which case it should start as a product in Eagle.

  1. Edit the eGift Card product like you would any other product: update the product name, assign it to a category, add images, etc. If you are requiring PINs for your eGift Cards, consider including that information in the product description.
  2. While editing the product, navigate to the "Inventory" section and select "Do Not Track Inventory for this product".

Taking these steps means you don't need to have eGift Cards in your inventory in order for them to be sold online.

Custom Fields

The eGift Cards in BigCommerce need to be flagged as eGift Cards. We use the custom fields on the product to trigger the gift card creation and email message.

The Custom Field Name must be egift_card. Please Note: Changing this field will disconnect the eGift Card integration. This field name is required and cannot be changed.

The Custom Field Value can be any text you'd like to display as a disclaimer about eGift Cards. Examples could be "The eGift Card will be emailed directly to the recipient" or "eGift Cards will be delivered to the recipient within 15 minutes of purchase".

  1. Custom Field Name: egift_card
  2. Custom Field Value: Your custom text

This product is now ready to be sold as an eGift Card. When purchased, your shoppers will receive an email with their gift card code and PIN (if applicable).
