Rackspace just posted an update which again you can read here:
Basically what they are saying is they got hit with what's called a Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. Attacks of this sort of meant to disrupt Rackspace's DNS service by flooding it with traffic. This attack is very similar to the attacks against Network Solutions in 2013 and this year. These attacks are not meant to steal data or break into systems but are rather meant to disrupt business for Rackspace's customers.

Sorry but we couldn't get any additional information out of Rackspace regarding the DDoS attack against their DNS Severs. The only advice they had for us was to continue to check their public status page:
RACKSPACE SUPPORT: There are not currently any more updates on the incident at this time. The best place to monitor updates on that would be on status.rackspace.com. The DNS team is involved in ongoing investigation and troubleshooting at this time.

Sorry for the trouble this has caused your business today. I wish I could say these attacks could be avoid or prevented but they are extremely hard to defend.
Please submit a Support Request if you have any questions about today's events. Thank you.
