Question
There are currently 9 products in the cross sell/upsell default, which looks weird (2x4 + 1). How can I change this to 12?

You can control this by going to the PRODUCTS section in Store Manager. On the left hand menu under SETUP, choose "Product Catalog."
Change Cross Sell / Up Sell Product Limit: and save. (currently 9)
