Our website has content in the footer about our store. I like it there because it gives people a quick snapshot of who we are and what we do. However, you have told me that duplicate content is bad, so isn't this hurting my SEO?

Duplicate content is bad when you copy and paste it from another website; for example, when you copy your vendor's product descriptions, designer bios, etc. In general, if you are creating the content yourself, then Google won't count it against you. In your specific example, they will figure out that the content is from your site, and it should not be a problem.
