Question
Do you think I should switch from HipCommerce to Magento?
Answer
We really like Magento and use it for our bigger retailers. However, it can be expensive and yes, it is more complicated than your current platform. On the plus side, it is very extensible and has a thriving marketplace where you can purchase or get free extensions. Magento also has a lot of features and functionality built right into the platform. Unfortunately, all of this results in a bigger, bulkier system which of course comes at a price, and it requires more to maintain than you current platform.
The following article gives some good insight into when you might consider switching to Magento:
As you can see the deciding factors come down to:
- Is my current platform not providing the features I need?
- Do I have the resources, personnel and money to support Magento so I'm successful?
Another option you may consider is WooCommerce. WooCommerce is similar to Magento in that it is open source software and highly extensible with a thriving marketplace and community. What we like about both HipCommerce and WooCommerce is they are built on top of WordPress, which is arguably the best content management system. Being able to easily control and add content in your website has become vital to any content marketing strategy. Please read:
WooCommerce and HipCommerce have this advantage over Magento because both are a plugin to WordPress. This has become, and is becoming, even more important as Google changes its rules on how it ranks you with Search. The more you write, the better you will do! Modern Retail believes content marketing is so important that we recommend running WordPress in parallel with all our Magento sites so the retailer has a really good content management systems for their blog. Additionally, Modern Retail is working on some enhancement to "intermingle" shopping with content, which Google will appreciate and rank you higher for. This is all being done on WooCommerce and HipCommerce, but is more difficult and costly to do in Magento.
I want to reiterate that we really do like Magento, but we also know it is tough being a retailer. We want to make sure it is a good fit for your business and that you switch to Magento at the right time.
Please let us know if you have any more question about Magento or any other e-commerce platform. We'll do our best to give it to you as straight as we can. Thank you.
