Modern Retail suggests adding at least a couple sentences of text on the homepage of your website describes your store, philosophy, brands and products. This text is helpful to people visiting your website, but more importantly, it is necessary for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). You can show this content at the bottom of the homepage or in the footer:
If you feel like all this content will get in the way of the design, then you can use what's called a JQuery Slider. This slider will expand and collapse this text area when clicked upon but has all the SEO benefits of the above. 
You will also want to make sure you have a good homepage SEO Title and Meta Tag Description. You project manager will help you configure this information during the setup of you project and you change it at any time using the tools built into WordPress or Magento.
