In order for your customers to get their gift card, that gift card has to be created, so it exists in your POS system. In this article, we'll talk about when gift cards get created after being purchased.
When are Gift Cards Created?
Gift cards get created after the collection of funds. This means depending on how your checkout is configured, the gift card may be created at different points of the checkout process. For example, if your website has been configured to authorize and capture the funds in checkout, then the gift card will get created (and emailed to the customer) immediately after purchase.
On the flipside, if your website is configured to authorize when the order is placed and capture funds when the order is completed, then the gift card gets created when the order is completed instead.
