Using Product Modifiers

Overview

Product modifiers are a BigCommerce feature that allows for product variations on your website, without needing to have separate SKUs in the back-end. In this article, we'll talk about how product modifiers work, and what you can do with them.

What are Product Modifiers?

Product Modifiers essentially allow you to create gridded products, but without the gridded product. By that, what we mean is that you can provide options for a product on your website (say, color, size, etc.), but without needing to set the product up as a typical gridded product, with multiple SKUs for each option. And because product modifiers don't modify the SKU for a given product, they work perfectly well with the integration. Product modifiers are particularly useful if you don't want to use gridded products (ie products with options like size, color, etc.) or if your POS/ERP system doesn't support gridded products.

Please note that product modifiers need to be manually set up for each product you want to use them in; there's no bulk option available yet. And unlike gridded products, there's no way to automatically bring them over when transferring your catalog to BigCommerce.
