Overview
Modern Retail recommends deciding as early into the process as possible if you want to display out of stock products on your website. In this article, we'll talk about the easiest way to set the visibility of out of stock products.
Setting Out of Stock Products to Invisible
In order to make Shopify display or stop displaying out-of-stock products, you should first make sure that inventory tracking is enabled. You can read about how to do that here.
Secondly, you'll need to let your project manager know if you are using Shopify Collections or Shopify Categories for product management.
If you are using Shopify Collections, you will need to set up the out-of-stock feature. This is easily accomplished with the instructions below.
Head over to the "automated collection conditions" for each of your Shopify collections. You'll want to set Products must match to "All Conditions", and then create a condition with the following settings:
- Inventory stock is greater than 0
This will make it so products with stock equal to or lesser than 0 don't appear in any collection you attach this condition to. Please be aware that this will make it so any other inventory in affected collections will need to match all conditions for that condition; plan your collections & conditions accordingly.
If you are using Shopify Categories, Modern Retail will enable the out-of-stock feature for you upon request.
